still sunday

I came home early from the library to watch Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy. Unfortunately, it was just darn "up to date" shows meant to suck in faithful viewers like me. Anyway, my aunt came to pick something up and I was upstairs eating a very late dinner and watching TV. All of a sudden, I hear that familiar yelling, except it wasn't directed at me this time around. I rushed downstairs (b/c I apparently have COU complex), and my dad was yelling at my aunt. See, my aunt has about 100x more problems than the average person. Her husband is a parapalegic, her only son has lots and lots of issues at the tender age of 11. My little cousin goes to therapy counseling. No doubt about it, my aunt is depressed, more so than me. My dad was yelling at her, telling her to quit dumping all of her problems on this house, etc, etc. I told my dad to stop yelling at her, and my mom tells her to stop crying.

The one thing that gets me upset as much as my dad's psychotic behavior is my mom's lack of action. As my aunt rushed out of the house in tears, I told my mom she should have just stuck up for my aunt. I have the same complaint over and over again, my mom never defends anyone. It's such an unattractive quality to have, because she can't even defend herself. *Lightbulb* This is where my sister's gets the quality from...holy crap. It literally just hit me right now... My mom (and my sister) have this "roll off the back" mentality which is good for insignificant things like gossip or dumb jokes. I don't think that approach is appropriate for heavier matters, like defending a family member against verbal abuse.

After I told my mom she should have tried to stop my dad, she was like, "Well your aunt should stop taking things so personally..." or whatever she said. Well, it's good to know my mom (and sister) give the exact same advice to everyone. They say I'm too sensitive, but the two of them have no sensitivity at all sometimes. Oddly enough, I think a tiny part of what I said got through to my mom because she then went outside and said something to my aunt.

Danny thinks my family has way too much going on. I think I agree with him. This kind of stuff can't be normal when it happens almost everyday!
