I'm going over PR right now and I had a quick flashback. When I worked at the State Bar my 1L summer, law clerks attended a few seminars about professional responsibility that was basically for naughty lawyers who had to do their time. The room would be full of attorneys who were forced to take a course to refresh them on their duties.
One morning, a man who looked very typical attorney-like was sitting in the back, obviously very unhappy to be there. He turns to me and says, "So you're all in law school, huh?" I nodded and hoped he wouldn't pull out a cheesy line where I'd be forced to offer my courtesy laugh.
With a straight face, Disgruntled Lawyer said: "Don't do it! Get out while you can, it's not worth it."
At the time, I thought...oh boy, had one too many and it's only 9am. I flashed my you're-making-me-uncomfortable smile and hoped he would stop talking to me. As irony would have it, almost three years later, I remember that man vividly.
As I go over my PR flashcards, I imagine a mini-him sitting on my shoulder saying, "Told you so."
