So I'm applying to several jobs today and wondering if it matters at all. I know Mr. O and my working friends are in holiday mode. I'm guessing no one's going to want to review resumes during this short week...or the weeks before Christmas.
I keep debating whether I was more unhappy last year or right now. Which is worse - not passing the Bar or passing the Bar and being unemployed? I'd still choose the latter. Congratulations to all those who have passed! I made plenty of happy phone calls last Friday. You are now my competition! ;)
I've asked professors to write recommendation letters so I can submit them with my resumes. I need something to set me apart because, well my grades sure don't. I'm looking everywhere! A few weeks ago, I got a call from an agency that wanted me to start a contract position right away. The only problem was that the position was in LA. I considered it for about 5 minutes. As desperate as I am, I'm willing to hold out for something in the Bay Area.
I keep chugging along...

I know exactly how you feel. It's sometimes difficult to celebrate having passed the bar when it doesn't seem to be making any difference. Because being a lawyer and passing the bar consumed my life for 5yrs, I guess I sort of expected the rest of the world - or at least *someone else* - to care. More power to you for holding out for a job. I tried to do it for 5months and the economy finally got the best of me. Even though I'm enjoying my non-law job now, there are days when I open my wallet just to look at my bar card and wonder where it's value went.
Ditto, what K said.
I've got some good job offers that are not law-related at all. But I know the moment I get a great law offer, I'm out of there. I need the money and the experience, but I hate to bail out like that on. I also feel like it's bad karma.
And seriously, K, I wonder that too... and I've kept that inside for so long...didn't tell my friends or even blog about it because a lot of friends haven't passed yet.
I might just cave in, and accept any job...got that nice notice about upcoming Bar annual fees...and even realized I'm still paying off those bar prep programs on my credit cards.
Just to make you laugh:

How much would the contract position in Los Angeles pay?
I am in Los Angeles but found myself taking an offer from a firm outside of Los Angeles, as it was the only offer I recieved in my preferred practice area.
